Around this time of year I become reminiscent of all things cozy and warm and perfectly fall. Chunky sweaters, changing leaves, chilly nights in the backyard with friends, crackling fires, pumpkin-scented candles, fuzzy socks, rust orange hues, and priceless time with loved ones. November is one of my favorite months because I feel like it takes me back—back to the simpler times of childhood and uncircumstantial happiness. That’s what I want to find this November. I want to take it back to when times were light and easy, and the only thing I had to worry about was what I’d carve into my pumpkin.

Life is filled with seasons. Good seasons, difficult seasons, busy seasons, restful seasons, seasons of gain, and seasons of loss. There is beauty in every season. Unfortunately, we often miss the beauty in our current season because we are too busy either dreaming of the next season or reminiscing and remembering the last season. If we are living in a difficult season, our last season often becomes abnormally good in our minds. We only remember the good parts and often wish we could return, but the reality is, every season has good and bad. We can choose to focus on the good or we can choose to focus on the bad.

Series Introduction: Joy

I’ll be blunt and say I don’t agree with the dictionary definition of the word “joy.” In my opinion, they’ve missed the mark and lost out on the true meaning of a word with the power to impact and change lives. The dictionary definition reads, “the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying; keen pleasure.” Two things, joy is not an emotion nor is it the reaction of something. At surface level, if you were to simply accept “joy” as another form of “happiness” then this definition would fit the bill. I’d like to dig deeper and challenge this vaguely cliché understanding of joy, so you can use this word to its full potential.
