Series Introduction: Peace

A stream trickling through a canyon... peace. A still lake surrounded by majestic mountains... peace. Snow quietly falling through pine needles... peace. Waves crashing onto the shore, sand between toes... peace. A candlelit bubble bath... peace. Soft worship music and a cup of hot tea... peace. A typewriter loaded with a blank page... peace.

When I search for peace, these are the moments I seek. Experiencing solitude among nature, or creating a space for personal relaxation are my go-to solutions for feeling at rest. In a world where anxiety and immediacy rule, it’s often difficult to find true, long-lasting, genuine peace. Thankfully, I don’t tend to carry much worry or anxiety with me. But, in high-stress situations, I usually let peace fall to the wayside. Here, my circumstances steal my composure and I’m led by an anxious space of my soul known for not seeing things clearly.

Stress clouds our judgment and hinders our ability to see a situation for what it truly is. Often times, we dig ourselves into a worry pit that was never initially there. Yet, we continue to grab the shovel and allow the littlest of things to take us deeper into the dirt.

This is why peace is so important, and why I believe we tend to undervalue the power of contentment. Listen, girlfriend. Peace gives you and I control over irrational thoughts and actions. No longer are we taking cues from the high-strung, impatient world around us — but, even in the worst storms, our spirits find rest.

I want to be a woman whose peace cannot be shaken. Despite what might be thrown my way, I want to stay rooted in serenity. I am in no way perfect, and I do still find myself giving into anxiety — but the desire is there.

Lady, I know you want to walk in peace every single day — you have it in you. For the month of March, let Crowned Chics be your escape, your refuge from the daily hassles and frustrations. Come read our stories and find belonging among us, who are also still trying to figure out how to live a peaceful life. You are not alone in this fight, but together we can encourage one another through gentle reminders and love.

Now, go find your moments of rest and allow yourself the time and space to pursue peace.

“I’ve told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakeable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world.” John 16:33 MSG
