I Love Myself, That's What Matters

Self-love is something I've struggled with. I struggle with comparison. I'm always comparing myself to others. I think that's brought me down a lot of times, and it's made me feel insecure. Another big thing for me is feeling judged — it's never fun to feel like you're constantly being judged by others.

In these situations, it has really helped me to remember God loves me. One thing I do every day is look at my favorite Bible verses. One of the verses reads:

"A cheerful spirit is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones." Proverbs 17:22 NIV

This verse has helped me a lot because it encourages me to have a cheerful spirit and spread joy! It also reminds me not to crush my spirit with judgment — or, by telling myself the words, "You're not loved."

Another verse I like is:

"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12 NIV

This one has really changed my mindset and I have used it many times. It reminds me, “Don’t let anyone look down on you!" These verses have really helped me remember I am loved!

Self-love is something I know a lot of people struggle with. It's a very well-known topic, and everyone has a different way of battling through it. For me, my way of battling through it and finding self-love can be reading Bible verses and devotional plans, writing, praying, talking and listening to music.

I know you probably hear it a lot, but remember — it's not what other people think about you that matters! What matters is loving yourself and remembering God loves you no matter what. Other people's opinions can’t make your level of self-love go down. It's a choice for you! Are you going to choose to let everybody else get you down all the time, or will you say, “I love myself and that's what matters.”

Know that whatever happens, God is always on your side and He's always loving you!

"This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua‬ 1‬:9‬ NLT
