You Need More Than Just Ambition
BY: CABELLA JOY FJESTAD
When I was 9-years-old, I wrote a book. It took a lot of ambition to write this book! I always wanted to write a book at a young age because I wanted to show you can do amazing things when you’re young! I knew when it was time to write it, God would say, "Go."
Even if God didn't say "go" at the age I wanted, I knew it was for a reason. That's one of the phrases I always go back to. For example, if something doesn’t go my way, I tell myself "it happened for a reason."
On April 10, 2018, I heard God say "Go.” I went downstairs and went to my mom's room. I told her, "I'm going to write a book!” I took the computer, went outside with my Bible, notebook and pens, and sat there. I was just so ambitious and ready for this moment I kind of forgot I actually had to write a book!
At this point I was so stuck. I was just thinking and thinking. I had forgotten I needed God's help with it! I went inside and told my mom, and she said to pray about it. I went back outside, sat in the middle of the yard, and prayed.
Praying really helped! There are different ways of connecting with God. Sometimes it's praying — other times, it’s reading the Bible. But, for me, praying is what really helped me through this process of writing and learning.
I've always been a really ambitious person and the type of person who likes to get tasks done. My book is a 7-day devotional I wrote in two days! Like I said, I am a really ambitious person and I like to get things done as soon as possible.
Soon after, I officially published my first book, "Step by Step: One Step Closer to the God Who Loves You.” I was so proud of myself and I just felt accomplished! I know this isn't what God calls everyone to do, and I am truly thankful He has given me the opportunity to write.
This experience taught me to really love writing. But, I learned an important lesson. Being ambitious is great, but you need to make sure it isn't taking over your relationship with God. You need to make sure you're still enjoying life and not just focusing on getting everything done. You need to make sure you're still counting your blessings.
Being determined and setting a goal isn't bad, but you need to make sure you're not pushing God out of it. You have to realize you can't do it on your own. You're going to do amazing things in life. But don’t forget, you need more than just ambition, you need God!
