Series Introduction: The Crowns We Wear

If you haven’t noticed, I have a big thing for crowns. They represent so much for me as I'm learning to accept the position God’s placing me into. A crown is a source of power and confidence — think about it. Any time we see an actor or actress wearing a crown, we come to respect them. Sounds silly, right? Yes, but it’s so true. I’m not sure if you’ve seen the show “Reign” on Netflix but I’m a fan. Every time I see Mary, Queen of Scots (A.K.A. the gorgeous Adelaide Kane), I swoon over her royal attire. While Adelaide isn’t a legitimate queen, she portrays the role so well I can’t help but admire her.

So, what’s my point? Let’s be queens worthy of respect because we are. We don't need an official title or family name to carry our heads high. It’s time for us to step out in assurance, knowing our position cannot be threatened by outside forces. Authority runs in your blood, girlfriend — no one can take that away.

All this talk about crowns would be pointless if we didn’t dive into it. Wouldn’t you agree? That’s why during the month of June, my lovely writers and I will be discussing “The Crowns We Wear.”  They might be picture perfect or slightly crooked — but above all, we’ll be sharing from the heart. You can expect raw emotions from real women who aren’t afraid to put it all out there. We want you to get to know us, our stories and our crowns.

My hope for this series is that it will bring us closer. I want you to know about the crowns in my life because I want you to feel comfortable with yours. We all have our fair share of ugly crowns scattered amidst the pretty ones. It’s totally okay because we’re nowhere near perfect — nor do we ever have to be. Royals still make poor choices but at the end of the day, they’re still ROYALS — and the same goes for you and me.

I invite you to join us on this soul-searching, tear-jerking, heart-stirring month of discovery and revelation. Get ready my queens, because it’s about to get real.
